3 Life Tips to Help You Go Back to the Office

Are you working in a hybrid environment or heading back to the office full time? After working at home for more than a year, life will likely change for you. For some, it might be hard to switch gears, but have no fear, we got you covered.

Here’s a list of tips that can help you as you go back to the office.

1 – Acknowledge that your life will be different

If you are heading back to the office, you must have a lot on your plate. Whether you’re a parent, taking care of a loved one, or living by yourself, many people have developed anxiety and other mental health issues in the past year. If that’s you, remember to take it slow as you transition back.

Once you are in the office, it’s going to be different than when you left. The setup could favor social distancing requirements. Friends and work colleagues may no longer be there because they are working from home or laid off. All you can do is accept it to move forward.

2 – Be social

Don’t be afraid to talk to your co-workers, many of whom you probably haven’t seen in a year. Your employer should be encouraging social interaction, even if it means following social distancing requirements.

While it may feel awkward, it’s good to start socializing again. Spontaneous conversations about work ideas, something that largely disappeared during the pandemic, should be encouraged too.

3 – Work-life balance is as important as ever

Just because you are back at work doesn’t mean life will fall into place. There will most likely be stressful days against a backdrop of an ongoing pandemic.
You want to avoid a burnout, but you still have other needs to care of like children, elderly family members, or friends. It’s essential to try to strike the work-life balance that works best for you.

If you are heading back to the office, make sure your employer is offering commuter benefits. Each month you can save up to $270 per month tax-free to pay towards qualified parking, mass transit, and rideshares. If mass transit or commuting by car is not your cup of tea, you can also use prepaid cards for e-bikes, bikes, or e-scooters.
