Top 7 Reasons Employees Quit Their Jobs

Have you had a lot of turnover in the office in the last couple of years?
We have a good guess as to why — actually seven of them.
PayScale conducted a survey of Millennials, Gen Xers and Baby Boomers to see why they quit. Here are the Top 7 reasons employees quit their jobs:

Higher Pay

It should come as no shock that 25 percent of those surveyed left a job because they wanted higher pay. While money isn’t everything, it is important.

Unhappy at Organization

If a job or company culture is not a good fit for an employee, they will leave, with 16 percent of the respondents agreeing.

Want to Work at Organization More Aligned With Their Values

About 14 percent of the respondents said they want to work somewhere that matches up with their values.

Relocation

One of the top reasons people leave is because they are moving to a different place, and 11 percent said this why they leave.

Full time work

If you’ve ever had to get by working two part-time jobs, you’ll understand why 10 percent said they’d quit when they found full time work.

Promotion

Seven percent said they’d leave if they couldn’t get a promotion.

Flexible schedule

If people couldn’t get a flexible schedule, 2 percent said this would be a top reason why they’d leave.
Some other interesting findings from the PayScale survey include what attracts people to new organizations.
Here are the reasons that attract employees to accept a job:

  • 27 percent wanted the opportunity to do more meaningful work.
  • 17 percent wanted the increased responsibilities in the new role.
  • 16 percent wanted the increased pay.
  • 11 percent enjoyed the workplace culture.
  • 6 percent wanted better benefits.
