Google has launched new features in its Maps app to help you avoid these situations (hopefully). Take a look:
Google’s goal is to help you take control of your commute. By adding your destinations into the app, you can plan and get an early look at whatever crazy scenarios might lay ahead.

Traffic and Transit Information

With one tap, you can access traffic and transit information with the map showing your commuting route. You’ll know whether to expect a regular commute or if you’ll need extra time. And if there’s something like an accident, it will suggest an alternative route if applicable.

Notifications and Departure Time suggestions

You can also receive notifications for delays or other issues if you have the Android Operating System (though the commute feature is being rolled out on iOS too).

For everyone, you’ll get departure time suggestions for each leg of the trip. You can also see if there’s traffic, when the train or bus leaves, and how long it will take you to walk to the office from your transit stop.

Google Maps for Public Transportation

If you use a couple of modes of transportation for your commutes, it provides that information too. Like Google Maps for driving, it will give you an estimated time of arrival. The features are available for public transit riders in 80 regions across the world.

Music streaming apps integrated into Google Maps

Google Maps is also making Spotify, Apple Music, and Google Play Music available within the app so you won’t have to fumble with your phone when you’re on the road or riding the train.

Look, there’s no substitute except for luck in getting a smooth commute. But with Google Maps new features, at least you can plan and try to reduce some of the stress.

Take control of your commute and save money at the same time

You can take more control of your commute with this solution, and you can also save money with commuter benefits.

Since commutes can be a bummer, it’s one of the many reasons we suggest you get commuter benefits.

With commuter benefits you can save up to 40 percent in commuting costs for public transit, qualified parking and rideshares. Not only that, but you set aside the money in your paycheck tax-free. Your employer also saves up to 7.65 percent in payroll taxes.
